Gin Basil Smash Cocktail Recipe
A refreshing modern classic created in 2008 by Jörg Meyer at Le Lion bar in Hamburg, Germany. This herbaceous gin sour features plenty of fresh basil muddled for vibrant green color and flavor, balanced with lemon juice and simple syrup. Originally called Gin Pesto before being renamed.

Ingredients
- 10-12 Basil Leaves
- 2 fl oz Gin
- 0.75 fl oz Lemon Juice
- 0.75 fl oz Simple Syrup
Instructions
- Muddle the basil leaves in the base of a cocktail shaker.
- Add the gin, fresh lemon juice, and simple syrup.
- Fill the shaker with ice and shake vigorously until well-chilled.
- Double strain into a rocks glass filled with ice.
- Garnish with a bouquet of fresh basil sprigs or leaves.
